Mercury Strings are a professional String Quartet based in the North of England UK. Formed in 2017, we have between us a wealth of experience playing together in ensembles, orchestras and as soloists.

We share a passion for the music written especially for string quartet, which, more than any other medium, represents an ideal form of musical communication.

From Haydn and Mozart in the 18th Century, to the music of Philip Glass in the 20th, and the up-and-coming talent of Joshua Brown in the 21st, we explore the range of repertoire which demands each player communicates with each of the others and directly with the audience.

Our versatile approach to public performance allows us to be equally at home delivering a recital on the concert hall platform, on the altar of a cathedral or even within the intimate surroundings of a private home.

We are constantly striving to share the excitement and emotion of live performance to a wide variety of audiences.

As well as our own recital series, we performed in the 2021/22 Ballet by Candlelight Series in Manchester Cathedral and Liverpool Grand Central, featuring music from Swan Lake and other popular classics by Tchaikovsky and Strauss.
