Jayne Coyle - Viola

Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, Jayne moved to Manchester in 1993 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music under the expertise of Vicci Wardman (founder violist of the Sorrel Quartet and principal viola with the Philharmonia Orchestra.) Since graduating Jayne has been a full-time freelance viola player, dividing her work between quartet and orchestral playing.

Jayne regularly performs and tours with some of the worlds finest conductors and soloists within a variety of professional orchestras. These include; the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hallé Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Manchester Concert Orchestra, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Opera North, English National Ballet, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, European Opera and Camerata Ireland.

Jayne is also an experienced chamber musician. As a founder member of Litmus String Quartet she toured extensively across the UK and France and Belgium playing Manchester indie covers on electric viola. Litmus played support to iconic Manchester band Durutti Column as well as performing at the In The City festival and MIPIM in Cannes. The quartet released their covers album Litmus in 2005.

With many years experience in string quartet playing and coaching Jayne has worked on numerous music education projects for the Society for the Promotion of New Music (SPNM) and the PRS foundation in a variety of locations across the UK. Jayne has recorded backing strings on many commercial recordings and can be heard on multiple classical and popular music albums and tracks over the last 25 years.

Jayne lives in Altrincham with her husband and two children and also teaches privately from home.
